CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Hawks dropped two matches on Saturday at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic to close out their opening weekend.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Hartwick vs Univ. of Rochester
- The Hawks and Yellowjackets went back and forth throughout the first set as each team put together several runs.
- Rochester used one of those runs to close out the first set over the Hawks 25-20.
- The Yellowjackets continued that momentum into the second and third sets, limiting the Hawks to just 11 kills across the two sets to close out the 3-0 win.
Hartwick vs Cortland
- Hartwick wrapped up their weekend with a tournament finale duel with the host squad, SUNY Cortland.
- The Hawks found their footing in the second match, but the Red Dragons pulled out the first set win 25-19.
- Hartwick battled back from a 15-7 deficit in the second set behind strong serve runs by Vanessa Seymour (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Sarah Petz (Webster, N.Y.), and Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) to claim the 25-22 win to even the match at one win apiece.
- Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Red Dragons came out firing in the final two sets to take the 3-1 match win.
- Silofau led Hartwick offensively, putting away 14 kills.
- Petz ended her day with 27 digs, 17 of which came in the second match against Cortland.
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
The Hawks travel to Geneva, New York next week for the William Smith Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Hartwick will open on Friday with William Smith before taking on Thiel College and SUNY Brockport on Saturday.
