Hawks Fall in Four at Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Hawks were handed their first loss of the season on Friday night, falling on the road 3-1 at St. John Fisher.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks went back and forth with the Cardinals early on in the first set, but St. John Fisher eventually pulled away in the back half of the set to take the win…
  • After trading side outs to start the second set, Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) took over to serve for the Hawks sparking a rally that would put Hartwick up 5-1.
  • Hartwick continued to rely on long serving runs to grow their lead to 16-7 before closing out the win 25-13.
  • The Hawks set a sizeable lead to start the third set but the offense stalled at the 15-point mark, giving St. John Fisher the ability to work their way back into the set.
  • The set flipped from there with the Cardinals going on to win the third set 25-19 to take the 2-1 lead.
  • Fisher carried the momentum gained from the third set comeback into the fourth set, edging out the Hawks 25-23 to hand Hartwick their first loss of the season.
  • Seniors Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) and Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.) picked up the volleyball double-double.  Silofau finished with 13 kills and 14 digs, while Thornton picked up 10 and 12.
  • Setter, Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.) collected 35 assists and also contributed 14 digs.
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks will need to regroup quickly as they head to Nazareth University tomorrow afternoon for another Empire 8 contest at 2 PM against the Golden Flyers.
