Field Hockey Cages Cardinals with 3-0 Conference Win

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Hawks regained their offensive form on Saturday afternoon while playing lights-out defense to defeat St. John Fisher on the road, 3-0.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • After a scoreless first quarter, the Hawks found the back of the cage in the later stages of the 2nd quarter to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Hope Angioletti (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) picked up the goal, while Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) registered the assist.
  • Hartwick quickly expanded their lead early in the 3rd quarter as Danielle Hand (Queensbury, N.Y.) put away her sixth goal of the season to give the Hawks the 2-0 lead.
  • Fisher found their footing offensively after Hartwick's second goal getting off six shots in the quarter. 
  • The Hawks gave themselves a fourth quarter cushion when Betts got one past the Cardinals' keeper in the 53rd minute of action to take the 3-0 advantage.
  • Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
  • Hartwick's goalies, Ashley Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.) and Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) combined for the shut-out win with Luppens collecting one save and Reynolds picking up three.
  • Head Coach Erin Autera praised her team's efforts postgame saying, "we are proud of the team's execution today.  We did exactly what we wanted to do and were strong with the ball.  I'm excited to see what we do next!"
 
UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
 
The Hawks return to their home field on Wednesday for a mid-week Empire 8 matchup against the Utica University Pioneers.  The contest will be the squad's Code Blue game as well as a mental health awareness game sponsored by Hartwick's chapter of The Hidden Opponent.
