-
Hartwick matched up with Skidmore under a light rain, as they looked to end their non-conference schedule with a win over the Thoroughbreds.
-
The Hawks faced early pressure from their opposition, with Skidmore earning their first of seven corners in the quarter at the five minute mark.
-
Skidmore generated a shot from the corner attempt but it was quickly smothered by the Hawk defense, awarding the Thoroughbreds another corner.
-
The second corner ended in the same result as the first, with the Hawks displaying great team effort to deny Skidmore.
-
The Thoroughbreds looked to get a quick shot off on their third corner attempt, a couple of passes led to an open Skidmore attacker who registered a shot attempt but would be thwarted by Kiara Dolan (Cazenovia, N.Y.), earning a defensive save.
-
It was a slow first quarter for the Hawk offense, but a strong defensive showing from the team, resulted in a scoreless first quarter.
-
After a great defensive first quarter, the Hawks kept their lockdown mentality on display, suffocating the Skidmore attack, holding them to zero shots and one corner attempt.
-
Back to back fouls by Skidmore jump started the Hawk offense, as they pushed their way downfield and earned their first corner attempt.
-
Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) slotted an entry pass to an awaiting Jess Betts (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) who was able to rifle one past the keeper for the first score of the game with five minutes left in the half.
-
Hartwick entered the half leading 1-0 despite losing the corner advantage 8-2 and being outshot 3-1.
-
Most of the third quarter was spent with both teams exchanging fouls as the Hawks attempted to protect their lead while Skidmore turned up their intensity, doing all they could to tie the game.
-
The Hawks' stout defense set up another promising attack for the Royal Blue and White, working their way into dangerous territory and earning a penalty stroke attempt.
-
Hartwick continued to capitalize on their few opportunities as Danielle Hand (Queensbury, N.Y.) was able to find the back of the net on the penalty stroke.
-
An illegal substitution would rule the penalty stroke goal as no good and a re-attempt was initiated. Hand was able to maintain composure and sink the penalty stroke attempt for the second time, putting the Hawks up 2-0 with less than five minutes remaining in the third.
-
Skidmore opened up the fourth quarter with early pressure as they did the first but continued to struggle to figure out the Hartwick defense, being denied once again but earning another corner attempt.
-
Tricarico made her presence felt all over the field, being the first to step up and contest attackers, earning several blocked shots as well as generating a few turnovers.
-
Hartwick held their ground and turned away the Thoroughbreds two corner attempts in two minutes.
-
The clock continued to work against Skidmore as they grew desperate trying to generate any offense.
-
A late surge of offense from Skidmore would see three corners and one shot attempt in the final three minutes of competition.
-
The tandem of Ashley Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.) and Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) did a wonderful job in the cage, commanding their defense and stepping up to clear loose balls as they split duties with Luppens locking down the first half and Reynolds hunkering down in the second half.
-
The Hawks joined elite company after earning the clean sheet victory, joining nationally ranked programs, No.23 SUNY New Paltz and No.1 Middlebury College as the only teams to blank Skidmore this season and being the fifth unranked team to shut out Skidmore in the last three years.
