WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The visiting Utica University Pioneers scored early and often in the first half to jump out to a 56-0 lead.
- After forcing the Hawks to punt on their first possession, it took the Pioneers one play to open the scoring with a 65-yard bomb down the right sideline.
- Utica took complete control of the first half from that point on, going on to score 21 points in the 1st quarter and 35 points in the 2nd.
- The Hawks were able to find an answer defensively in the second half, holding the Pioneers to just six points in the 3rd quarter.
- Hartwick continued to hold Utica's offense at bay in the 4th allowing just a field goal with 9:48 remaining in the contest.
- While it took longer than the Hartwick faithful hoped, the Hawks broke through late in the 4th quarter when Conor Cosgrove (Warwick, N.Y.) caught a 32-yard touchdown pass to get on the board.
- Unfortunately, that was all the Hawks would get after Ransome Turner Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) converted the PAT.
- While the Hawks struggled to find the endzone, several of their offensive weapons had big afternoons led by Cosgrove with 107 receiving yards.
- Haven Marascio (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) and Carlito Aldamuy (Syracuse, N.Y.) picked up 37 and 34 receiving yards respectively.
- Defensively, Ben Kirkland (Buffalo, N.Y.) led the way in tackles for Hartwick, collecting six total tackles, one of which was a sack for four yards.
- Randall Dennis (Miami, Fla.) also picked up two tackles for a total loss of 10 yards. The senior defensive back also picked off a pass in the endzone to halt one of Utica's second half drives.
