Hartwick Falls in Road Contest vs #2 Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Hawks fell on the road against the reigning NCAA Division III National Champions, SUNY Cortland, on Saturday afternoon.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • Cortland came out firing on all cylinders on Saturday afternoon, scoring 21 points in each of the first two quarters to take a commanding 42-0 into halftime over the Hawks.
  • The Red Dragons put up twenty more points before Hartwick could get on the board late in the 3rd quarter.
  • The Hawks hit Cortland with a quick strike with nine seconds remaining in the 3rd as Braden Moreau (Ilion, N.Y.) connected with Conor Cosgrove (Warwick, N.Y.) for a 66-yard receiving touchdown.
  • Cortland tacked on another TD in the fourth but failed at the extra point attempt to extend their lead to 68-7.
  • However, Hartwick put together a 10-play 57-yard drive midway through the final quarter to set up a Ransome Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) 23-yard field goal.
  • Colby Phraner (Walton, N.Y.) and Joshua Titus (Greene, N.Y.) highlighted Hartwick's defensive efforts as each recorded a sack with Phraner's going for a 10-yard loss and Titus's going for a two-yard loss.
  • Benjamin Kirkland (Buffalo, N.Y.) finished his day with eight total tackles, while James Bender (Schenectady, N.Y.) led the team in solo tackles with five.
  • Offensively, the Hawks were still able to move the ball vs the 2nd ranked Red Dragons as Moreau threw for 260 yards and Cosgrove gained 121 yards on six receptions.

The Hawks return home next weekend for a noon kickoff against Hilbert College.
