FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Hartwick Women's Swim and Dive team concluded the Fredonia State Blue Devil Invite with a second place finish, being edged out by new Empire 8 foe SUNY Brockport by four points.

The Hawks aimed to overtake the first-place SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles after climbing to second place with a strong finish on Day Two.

Cate Russo (El Cajon, Cal.) was first to touch the wall in the 1650 yard freestyle, posting a finishing mark of 18 minutes and 24 seconds to get the Hawks rolling.

Kate Gucciardi (Cicero, N.Y.) and Bree Dy (Matawan, N.J.) finished fourth and fifth in the 200 yard backstroke. Gucciardi finished in two minutes and fifteen seconds, Dy would complete her race three seconds after Gucciardi.

Hartwick posted a strong showing in the 200 yard breaststroke as three Hawks took the top spots with Courtney Pierce (Fulton, N.Y.) leading the way. Pierce posted a finishing mark of two minutes and twenty five seconds, Min-Syun Chen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was next to touch the wall, clocking in at two minutes and thirty one seconds.

Jillian Ferrie (Middle Grove, N.Y.) rounded out the top three with a time of two minutes and thirty four seconds, awarding the Hawks with some well-needed points.

The 200 yard butterfly followed and Danielle DeCarlo (Whitesboro, N.Y.) worked her way to a third place finish, finishing in two minutes and twenty three seconds. Coming in just .34 seconds after DeCarlo was Savannah Evans (Livermore, Calif.) to snag fourth place.

Russo, Dy, Pierce, and Anna Bischoff (Oneonta, N.Y.) capped off the Blue Devil Invite with a fourth place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The group trailed the Penn State-Behrend by just one second, clocking in at three minutes and forty one seconds.Â

The Hawks will return home to Moyer Pool for a dual meet against the Broncos of SUNY Delhi on Friday, December 6th at 4PM.
