WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Hawks dropped two matches on Saturday at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic to close out their opening weekend.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Hartwick vs Penn College
- The Hawks were dominant against the Wildcats from the start, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first set.
- Penn College battled back in the second set, picking up the 25-21 win, but the Hawks battled back in the third and fourth set to take the 3-1 win.
- Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) led the offensive attack, putting away 12 kills on just 17 attempts.
- After a year away due to injury, setter Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.) picked up right where she left off in 2022, collecting 33 assists.
- Overall, the team posted a .364 hitting percentage, tallied 12 aces and collected 49 digs.
Hartwick vs Lycoming
- Hartwick outlasted the Lycoming Warriors in the night cap against the tournament hosts, going all five sets with the Hawks taking the first, third, and fifth sets for the 3-2 match win.
- Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii), Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.), and Swartz each took turns carrying the offense throughout the five-set affair.
- Aaliyah Williams (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) put away eight kills across the five sets, including a clutch kill in the deciding set to break a 4-4 tie.
- Hornick once again orchestrated the offense assisting on 55 of the team's kills.
- Five Hawks ended the match in double digit digs. Thornton led the squad with 26, followed by Silofau with 22. Swartz collected 12 digs, while Arianna Thompson (Hogansburg, N.Y.) added 12, and Hornick tacked on 10.
