Hawks Defeated by Red Dragons in Final Non-Conference Test

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Men's Soccer Team faced off against the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta for their annual "Battle of the Hills" matchup.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: SUNY Oneonta 5 Hartwick 0

  • Location: Oneonta, N.Y.

  • Records: SUNY Oneonta (3-1-2, 0-0 SUNYAC), Hartwick (2-3-1, 0-1 Empire 8)

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick prepared for their final non-conference contest against the Red Dragons before returning to conference play for the rest of the season.

  • An early yellow card would be called on Oneonta as the refs were quick to take control of the game, setting the tone early.

  • Oneonta would score their first goal of the game with a missile from just outside the box at the 11 minute mark that was nearly saved but still crossed the plane for the first score of the game. .

  • As the game continued, the teams exchanged two corners a piece before Oneonta worked their way into the final third and looked to score a second goal but an acrobatic save by Dante Gesamondo (Lynnfield, Mass.) kept them at one.

  • The Hawks worked hard to turn the tide and formulate attacks of their own as they tried their best to keep Oneonta within reach.

  • The Red Dragons scored once more in the half, coming at the 40 minute mark.

  • Hartwick headed into the half trailing by two as they looked to have a stronger second half.

  • Oneonta scored their third goal at the 51 minute mark, and returned with another goal at the 52 minute mark.

  • Jake Daly (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) put a wonderful strike on goal from outside the box but was unfortunately saved by the outstretched keeper.

  • The Hawks conceded a goal at the 78 minute mark to close out the game. The team will now shift its focus back on their Empire 8 conference slate.


UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks will hit the road to matchup against the Golden Flyers of Nazareth University on Saturday, September 21st at 2PM.
