THE BASICS
- Final Score: Hartwick 30, Juniata 37
- Location: Oneonta, N.Y.
- Records: Hartwick (1-2 Overall), Juniata (1-2 Overall)
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The visiting Juniata College Eagles strung together a late 1st quarter drive, capped off by a 39-yard touchdown reception with 1:40 left on the clock.
- The Eagles were unable to convert the extra point attempt, leaving the door open for the Hawks.
- However, Juniata found the endzone again on their first drive of the 2nd quarter to go up 13-0 after converting the point after attempt.
- Hartwick rebounded quickly using a bit of creativity as quarterback James Sobol (Old Forge, Pa.) pitched the ball back to receiver Conor Cosgrove (Warwick, N.Y.) who then found a streaking Ransom Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) down the right sideline for a 74-yard strike to make the score 13-7.
- The two teams traded three-and-outs over the next three possessions until Hartwick found their offensive groove midway through the 2nd quarter.
- This time around, the Hawks set up their drive with a handful of long passes before Carlvin McDonald (Central Islip, N.Y.) bulldozed his way to the endzone with an 8-yard run.
- Unfortunately, the Hawks' point after attempt was tipped at the line of scrimmage, evening the score at 13-13.
- On their ensuing drive, the Eagles converted a field goal attempt.
- Despite a strong drive with under two minutes remaining in the half by the Hawks, the Eagles would hold a three-point advantage headed into the break.
- The Hawks started the second half strong with Turner-Rush capping off the drive with a 47-yard field goal to knot the score up once again.
- From there the contest would turn into a shoot-out as both squads made the most of their offensive possessions.
- With the score tied at 30-30, the Hartwick defense took a stand, forcing a three-and-out handing the ball over to their offense with 1:25 left in the final quarter of action.
- However, an interception on the first play of that drive put the ball back in the hands of the Eagles' offense.
- Juniata made the most of their final possession and the short field, with a 20-yard touchdown pass with 58 seconds on the clock.
- After the Eagles' converted the point after attempt, the Hawks entered their final drive down by seven.
- The Hawks were able to march down the field from their own seven-yard line to Juniata's 21-yard line in just 47 seconds.
- With five seconds left on the clock, Hartwick looked to the endzone, but the pass was just out of the reach of Cosgrove as the clock hit zero.
