WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks jumped on the Garnett Chargers early behind an unassisted strike from Makenzie Kensel (San Diego, Calif.) in the 7th minute of action.
  • Kensel found the back of the cage again in the 24th minute to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage.
  • Just under two minutes later, Union was able to cut the lead in half with a strike from Bobbi Serino.
  • Hartwick's Ashley Tricarico (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) put away her sixth goal of the season in the 34th minute to regain the two-goal advantage.
  • Unfortunately, the host Garnett Chargers once again picked up a goal of their own with just under 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.
  • Both squads would go scoreless for the remainder of the 3rd quarter and nine minutes into the 4th when Union found the cage once again to knot the score up at 3-3.
  • Hartwick and Union remained deadlocked at three all through two overtime periods, forcing a shootout.
  • Maddie Greco, who notched the game-tying goal for Union, started the shootout with a goal.
  • However, the Hawks responded when Tricarico converted on Hartwick's first attempt.
  • Both Hartwick's Ava Reynolds (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Union's keeper traded denied three straight attempts each.
  • Unfortunately for the Hawks, Union would picked up a score on their subsequent attempt and then proceed to stop Hartwick's final attempt for the shootout victory.
