Hawks Fall to Golden Flyers in Home Conference Play


ONEONTA N.Y. - The Hartwick Women's Basketball team hosted the Golden Flyers for their fourth consecutive home game, falling to Nazareth in conference play.

 

THE BASICS

  • Final Score: Nazareth 75 Hartwick 42

  • Records: Nazareth (11-3, 5-0 Empire 8) Hartwick (3-10, 1-4 Empire 8)  

 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick prepared for the opening tip, squaring off against a red hot Nazareth squad who were winners of their last five and tied for the conference lead.

  • The Hawks found themselves down early as the Golden Flyers opened the contest with a 16-4 run in the first five minutes.

  • Emma Cohen (Utica, N.Y.) and Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) found buckets in the paint as the squad looked for a way to get the offense ignited.

  • Syd Delisle (Mechanicville, N.Y.) spotted Cohen on the wing for the lone three pointer of the quarter with three minutes left.

  • Nazareth's fourth ranked offense in the Empire 8 shot with high efficiency in the first, connecting for 25 points.

  • The Royal Blue and White were able to force Nazareth to work harder for their shots as their field goal percentage significantly dropped but their offensive rebounding allowed them to create new opportunities.

  • Throughout the first half,Cohen led the charge on offense, ranking first on the team with six points at half as the Golden Flyers remained in control, leading by double digits.

  • As the second half got underway, the Hawks kept fighting despite the deficit, driving to the paint and earning trips to the free throw line in the third quarter, taking six points but struggled to connect from the field.

  • Hartwick had their best offensive quarter in the fourth, combining for 16 points but could not keep up with the rolling Nazareth squad.

  • Cohen finished the night with 16 points for the team lead, Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) was next in line with eight points. Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the team with six rebounds.
