ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hartwick Swimming & Diving Coach Dale Rothenberger has recently announced the hiring of Cecelia Mowrey as his newest Assistant Coach, effective October 13th.
Mowrey comes to Hartwick after most recently serving as a middle school science teacher as well as both the varsity and modified swimming & diving coach for the past five years. She is a Hartwick swimming & diving alum, having graduated in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in biology and secondary education. She also has received her master's degree in education (curriculum development and instructional technology) from the University at Albany.
"I am very excited to welcome Ceci back to Hartwick Swimming & Diving and have her as a part of our coaching staff. Ceci was first introduced to Hartwick back in 2010 as an 11 year old Hartwick Swim Camper and attended swim camp every summer up to 2015. She then arrived at Hartwick as a recruited swimmer in 2017 and was a member of the Hartwick women's swimming & diving team all 4 years, graduating in 2021 during COVID," explains Rothenberger. "Ceci brings a wealth of knowledge & experience to Hartwick and our student-athletes. I am so excited to have Ceci working with me, Mikey, Colin and our athletes this 2025-26 season and beyond. Welcome aboard Cecelia!"
During Mowrey's time as an athlete at Hartwick, she held the title of captain for two seasons. She currently ranks within the top ten of all-time swimmers and divers for the Hawks in multiple events, notably ranking third all-time in the 200 individual medley. She also currently holds the Hartwick program record for the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:02.25. Mowrey would also receive five Second Team All-Conference honors throughout her career as well as First Team recognition in the 2019-2020 season for her performances in the 400 individual medley event as well as the 800 free relay event.
"I am super excited to return to the program as a coach," says Mowrey. "I look forward to continuing Hartwick Swim & Dive traditions and developing team culture, creating new traditions along the way."
