BY THE NUMBERS

  • Lucille Walker (Ithaca, N.Y) was an unstoppable force on offense, tallying 12 of the Hawks' 33 total kills while 7 of her kills would occur in the third set alone. Alongside her was Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.), who tallied nearly all Hartwick assists for a total of 29.

  • The Hawks outweighed the Wolves 15-5 in service aces, with Mary Kinnane (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) making up a third of the Hawks' stats in this category.

  • Sophia Palladino (Owego, N.Y.) and Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) combined for 24 digs on the defensive end, with Swartz leading the team with 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Keuka came out strong to start the match and secured the first four points. Swartz would face off against younger sister Phoebe Swartz on the court tonight, and came out strong with a service ace to get the momentum going for the Hawks. However, Keuka would still lead until Kinnane on service would force several consecutive errors for the Wolves and knot the first set at 9-9. More errors continued to plague the Wolves while Isabella Gracias (Oneonta, N.Y.) alongside Samantha Garback (Tully, N.Y.) and Swartz created several more scoring opportunities to pull away and take the first set.

Swartz would again start the Hawks off with a bang as she tallied the first kill of the second set to take the lead. Palladino and Walker would both make waves for the Hawks as they tallied up multiple kills to stretch their lead, while Ellie Kalbach (Spring City, Pa.) and Kinnane were both standouts on service. Meanwhile, more errors on Keuka would give the Hawks the drive they needed to end the set 25-17.

The third set was a battle as the Wolves and the Hawks took turns trading for the advantage in points, but Walker was unstoppable on the offense, totaling seven kills in the third set alone to keep the Hawks moving forward. Despite a close battle, the Hawks still managed to sweep the Keuka College Wolves in three sets and move to 7-1 in conference play.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS

The Hawks continue their conference road trip with a match against the Elmira College Soaring Eagles on Saturday, October 25th at 1 PM.
