ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Hartwick men's soccer team has punched their ticket to their fourth consecutive Empire 8 Championship Tournament, having clinched the #8 spot in regular season play.
Â
The Hawks closed out the year with a regular season record of 5-9-2 and an Empire 8 conference record of 4-6-1, most notably tying #2 Brockport at 1-1 in regular season play.
Â
The young Hawks battled hard this season to clinch a postseason berth, with several rookies standing out to make a significant impact this season; First-years Mathieu Six (Antwerp, Belgium) and Wilson Mount (Atlanta, Ga.) were dynamic on the offensive end of the field, combining for a total of nine goals. Six would lead the team with five goals, three of which were game-winners.
Â
Devin Chandler (Wylie, Tex.) would also make his debut for the Hawks as a sophomore, creating several corner kick opportunities to get him into double-digits on assists, as well as bury three goals of his own.
Â
In goal, Matthew Morrison (Missouri City, Tex.), Drew Cover (Fayetteville, Pa.) and newcomer Jelani Usim (Kingston, Jamaica) would share time to tally a combined 50 saves. Usim would lead with 36 and post a save percentage of 0.783 in his first season.
Â
"Postseason has long been a tradition for Hartwick men's soccer, and we're excited to be part of the E8 playoffs again for the 4th straight year," says Head Coach John Scott. "We're looking forward to our game at Geneseo, where we know we'll need to be at our best against the top seed."
