WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks opened the contest with an early foul but Emma Cohen (Utica, N.Y.) gave the team their first bucket, driving for the interior score with Daniella DeBiase (Staten Island, N.Y.) picking up the assist.

  • DeBiase continued to orchestrate the offense, finding an open Niamh Kelly (Latham, N.Y.) down low for the score.

  • Cohen picked up back to back assists as well, spotting DeBiase and Yadi Smith (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) for their first three pointers.

  • Hartwick continued to let it rain from beyond the arc as Syd Delisle (Mechanicville, N.Y.) knocked down two wing three pointer as the Hawks leaped out to a 16-4 lead.

  • Trinity Thornton (Sherburne, N.Y.) poured in the last bucket of the quarter to cap off the great start, ending the first up 18-9.

  • The Royal Blue and White executed in the painted area at a high rate,  scoring all their second quarter field goals besides a lone Smith three pointer, coming from inside the painted area.

  • Poly began to find their groove on offense, outscoring the Hawks 17-13 in the second quarter, but Coach Lombard's squad carried a five point lead into the half.

  • Hartwick's offense went cold to start the third quarter as the Wildcats were able to erase the five point deficit, four minutes in.

  • The Wildcats took their first lead since scoring the opening bucket with four minutes remaining, a pull-up jumper from DeBiase quickly swung Hartwick back in front.

  • The two teams began to go blow for blow, trading the lead back and forth. Kylie Guarino (Auburn, N.Y.)  knocked down three of four free throws to give the team  a two point cushion in the final minute and a half.

  • A Wildcat three pushed them back in front but DeBiase connected on the deep three pointer to give the Hawks their slim two point lead back at the end of the third.

  • Delisle connected on a running floater through the contact, earning the and-one opportunity. Syd sank the free throw to increase their lead to three with under eight minutes remaining.

  • SUNY Poly found themselves an open three pointer but it was quickly matched by Cohen to knot the game up at 46 with six minutes left.

  • The Hawks succumbed to a 9-0 Wildcat run in the following five minutes to turn the tide in Poly's favor, powered by second chance opportunites.

  • Hartwick did their best to try to bounce back but the nine point deficit proved to be too much to overcome in the final minute.

  • Delisle led the scoring as the first year eclipsed a new career high in points with 11, Kelly poured in ten.

  • Macy Durkin (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Hawks in rebounding, pulling down ten boards, adding in nine points as well.
