WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
The Hawks geared up to open up their spring break trip, facing off against the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent after yesterday's games were postponed due to rain.
-
Anna Klein (Souderton, PA) got the starting nod after picking up the complete game victory over Delhi the past week. Klein picked up where she left off, setting the Dolphins down in order to start the day.
-
Emily Holladay (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.) earned a free pass from the leadoff spot, working her way into scoring position by swiping two bags.
-
Autumn Millington (Westmoreland, NY) worked a walk as well but Holladay and Millington were left stranded on the corner bases to end the first.
-
An error from the Hawks put the Dolphins in prime position to break the contest open with a runner in scoring position. A double to the wall would bring the runner in, putting another one in scoring position with no outs.
-
Two ground outs knocked in another run for the Dolphins, Klein stayed locked in, ending the inning with a strikeout.
-
Infield mishaps from the Dolphins allowed the Hawks to claw their way back into the contest, taking advantage of the UMSV blunders and tying the game at two.
-
The Dolphins were able to answer back with two more runs at the top of the third to regain their lead, scoring one off of a defensive error from Hartwick.
-
Klein bounced back, setting down six straight Dolphins to get the Royal Blue and White back to the plate in the bottom of the fifth.Â
-
Holladay got the Hawks in the hit column, legging out an infield single to get the offense moving. Brianna Blake (Mechanicville, NY)Â earned a walk and got into scoring position with the sacrifice from Millington.
-
Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) blooped a single in between UMSV defenders, knocking in one run but the second Hawk would be thrown out at home to end the inning.
-
The sixth inning went away quietly before UMSV tacked on their final two runs in the top of the seventh, posting their best inning yet with three hits. Hartwick went down in order in the bottom half, falling to the Dolphins 6-3 in their first game of the day.
Â
GAME 2
-
Following an intermission, the Hawks prepared to take the diamond once again, matching up with the Beacons of UMass Boston. Bella Martinez (Port Byron, NY) picked up a base knock, the first in her collegiate career but that's all the team produced in the first.
-
Kylee Cucci (Brookfield, NY) got the starting nod in Game Two and was faced with early adversity as the leadoff hitter collected a base hit. Two stolen bases and a knock up the middle put the Beacons on the board first with one run in the first.
-
Offense was hard to come by in Game Two for the Hawks, being held to two hits on the day being faced with some tough starting pitching. Lindsay Zgrodek (Glen Spey, NY)
-
Timely hitting and good baserunning from the Beacons allowed them to build on their lead over the course of the game, repeating their first inning formula.
-
Hartwick continued to battle but was unable to overcome the Beacons' starter, falling to UMass Boston on Day One.
