WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks prepared for a rematch against the University of Mount Saint Vincent in their second day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, falling in a tight battle the day before.

  • Emily Holladay (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.) got the first inning underway with a base hit to right field, Holladay advanced to third on two wild pitches from the Dolphins as the Hawks looked to strike first.

  • Hartwick put up the first run on the board with a Casey O'Connor (Albany, NY) single to left center to get her day started.

  • Brianna Blake (Mechanicville, NY) made it three base hits in a row, moving O'Connor into scoring position with no outs. Anna Klein (Souderton, PA) laid down the sacrifice bunt, putting both runners in scoring position.

  • Bella Martinez (Port Byron, N.Y.) knocked in the second run of the inning with a ground out to the third baseman to wrap up the scoring in the first.

  • UMSV got their offense moving with a leadoff single as well, piecing together two hits to bring in a run in the first two innings, heading into the third knotted at two.

  • The Hawks responded well, starting the inning with a leadoff walk from Blake and a Martinez single before Nadia Pascucci (Troy, N.Y.) delivered a run with a rip up the middle. Martinez scored on a passed ball to put the Hawks back up by two runs.

  • Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY) settled in on the bump, setting the Dolphins down in order after surrendering a leadoff single in the bottom of the third.

  • Holladay continues to wreak havoc on the basepaths, reaching on a fielder's choice and immediately swiping second base to get into scoring position. O'Connor came through once again, singling to center field to bring Holladay home for the second time.

  • The Dolphins earned a run in the bottom of the fourth, building off a leadoff walk to cut the Hawk lead down to two heading into the later half of the ball game.

  • Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) opened the fifth with a base knock, Pascucci picked up a base hit as well but they were left stranded on the bases to conclude the top half of the fifth.

  • UMSV broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, piling together four hits including a two out, two run triple to gain a 6-5 advantage over the Royal Blue and White.

  • Coach Stroop's squad responded well once again, roaring back with six hits of their own with the top four spots in the lineup stringing together four hits. Blake picked up the RBI single to tie the game at six before Stevens took the lead with a groundout. Martinez picked up another RBI with her second base hit to put the team up two.

  • The offenses continued to stay hot as the Dolphins collected three hits but only mustered one run, trailing by one after six innings.

  • Hartwick went down in order in the seventh, heading into the bottom half with a slim one run lead. Kylee Cucci (Brookfield, NY) took the mound and shut the door on the Dolphins, using her velocity to overpower two Dolphins on the way to earning her first collegiate save.

GAME 2 (vs SUNY Oswego)

  • After an intermission, Anna Klein got the starting nod in the second game of the afternoon, surrendering a leadoff walk, but set the Lakers down in order after that.

  • A pitcher's duel was brewing as the next two turns for the offenses were off to a slow start, being set down in order.

  • The Hawks made some noise in the bottom half of the third as Samantha Osborne (Schenevus, NY) earned herself a walk and Stevens followed with a base knock. Unfortunately, the two runners were left on base as the scoreless affair continued.

  • Klein faced some trouble in the top of the fifth, surrendering three hits but worked herself out of the jam to keep the shutout intact, shutting down the Laker lineup through five.

  • Pascucci opened up the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff single, advancing to second on the Osborne groundout. Holladay picked up the two out base knock and also stole second base to get two Hawks into scoring position but the team could not convert, stranding two more runners on base.

  • No hits were allowed in the sixth inning as both teams headed into the final inning, deadlocked at zero. Klein was able to retire the leadoff hitter before allowing a base knock, that runner would move into scoring position on a groundout to third base.

  • Oswego was able to record another base hit and advance into scoring position, with Lakers on second and third with two outs. The Lakers were able to come through in the clutch, getting a base hit up the middle, knocking in the first two runs of the game.

  • The Hawks were presented with a similar opportunity in the final half of the game, with two runners in scoring position and two outs but could not convert, falling to the Lakers in a hard-fought battle.
