WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick prepared for their final day of competition in Myrtle Beach, matching up with the Mounties for a 9AM first pitch.

  • After a silent first inning, the Hawks opened up the second inning with back to back knocks from Anna Klein (Souderton, PA) and Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) to get things going. Despite the early pressure, Mount Aloysius was able to hold off the Hawk bats, stranding two in scoring position.

  • Klein retired six Mounties in a row before Mt. Aloysius got their bats active, pushing across three runs, coming off three hits and two Hawk errors.

  • Moore collected her second hit of the day in the top of the fourth but the Hawks were unable to respond with a run of their own.

  • Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY) started the top half of the fifth inning with a leadoff single and worked her way into scoring position with some slick baserunning. With one out, the Hawks put the ball in play twice but were unable to bring Stevens in to wrap up the top of the fifth.

  • Mount Aloysius found their groove after being set down in order in the fourth, formulating five hits for five runs to put the game out of reach for the Hawks in Game One.

GAME 2 (vs UMaine-Presque Isle)

  • Coach Stroop's squad looked to bounce back in Game Two,gearing up for a rematch against the Owls of Maine Presque-Isle, picking up a 5-2 triumph the day before.

  • Kylee Cucci (Brookfield, NY) got the starting nod for the Hawks, setting down the Owls in order before they struck early, building off an Owl error.

  • Emily Holladay (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.)  reached on a fielder's choice before Samantha Osborne (Schenevus, NY) laid down the sacrifice bunt, advancing Holladay to second, a heads up play by Holladay allowed her to advance to third.

  • Moore kept her momentum from game one, coming through with a base to bring Holladay in from third base.

  • The Owls stranded two on base in the top half of the second before a perfectly executed bunt by Nadia Pascucci (Troy, NY) brought Bella Martinez (Port Byron, NY) across the plate, putting the Hawks up two after two innings.

  • Holladay led off the third with a leadoff single, swiping second base to get into scoring position. Stevens roped a triple to the left field wall to tack on a run for three straight innings as the Hawks continued to roll.

  • Cucci continued to work herself out of jams, stranding six Owls on base in the first four innings.

  • The Hawks executed their third inning formula with success as Holladay led off with a single and stole second base before Sam Moore was able to knock her home with a base hit to right field.

  • Kylee Cucci settled in and found her groove on the bump, retiring nine consecutive Presque Isle hitters, posting her first career victory with a complete game shutout.
