WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Hartwick geared up for their first contest back at home after a successful Myrtle Beach trip, the Hawks played host in Game One and were the away team in the second game due to Cobleskill having to switch locations due to field conditions.

The Hawks got to work swiftly after Anna Klein (Souderton, PA) stranded two Tigers on base, Autumn Millington (Westmoreland, NY) got on base with a two out single up the middle.

Millington moved into scoring position on a wild pitch before Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) knocked a single through the left side to put runners on the corner.

Samantha Osborne (Schenevus, NY) ripped a single to left field, bringing Millington in from third for the first run of the game.

Klein set the Hawks down in order before Nadia Pascucci (Troy, NY) opened up the second with a one hopper to the wall for a double, but was stranded on third as the Hawks led after two.

Hartwick continued to execute with two outs as Moore picked up her second base hit of the game. Osborne, Pascucci, and Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, NY) all displayed great plate discipline as they each picked up a free pass, pushing another run across the plate.

Back to back singles from Brianna Blake (Mechanicville, NY) and Emily Holladay (Hancock Bridge, N.J.) allowed Millington to bring Blake home from third.

Osborne opened the bottom of the fifth with a leadoff double, moving to third after Betts was able to move her over.

Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY) roped a single up the middle to bring Osborne to push their cushion to four runs after five innings.

The Fighting Tigers bats came to life in the top half of the seventh inning, piecing together six hits for seven runs to take a 7-4 lead, their first lead of the game in their final half.

With their backs to the wall, Pascucci got Hartwick started with a single through the left side. A Cobleskill error got Stevens on base and pushed Pascucci to second, Sierra Phillips (Salem, NY) picked up a single to jam the bases full of Hawks.

Blake delivered under the pressure with a two RBI knock to cut the Tiger lead down to one.

A Holladay single added on another level of pressure, the Hawks were able to knot the game up at seven as Phillips sped home, beating the throw from the catcher after a wild pitch.

Millington got the job done for the Hawks, skying a ball out to deep right field, Blake was able to beat the incoming throw from the right fielder as the Hawks piled up four runs to spoil Cobleskill's comeback attempt.

GAME 2Â

With the teams switching sides to begin Game Two, the first inning would end hitless before Pascucci picked up the first base knock of the day. Stevens recorded a base hit as well but was left stranded.

The Fighting Tigers broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning, bringing across seven runs on five hits and one run.

Sam Moore responded with a double to left center to bring Blake home after she earned a leadoff walk, cutting the lead down to six.

Cobleskill tacked on two more runs on two hits to close out the third. Hartwick answered with two runs of their own as a Pascucci double and a Stevens single allowed Brianna Blake to bring them home on the double.

The offenses slowed down before the Fighting Tigers put the game out of reach, bringing in two runs to conclude the contest.

The Hawks will open up their Empire 8 conference slate with a road matchup at Utica University, squaring off against the Pioneers on Saturday, March 29th at 1 & 3 PM.
