CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Hartwick Outdoor Track and Field program returned to SUNY Cortland for the Cortland Classic, continuously making strides in preparation for the Empire 8 Championship in May.

The Hawks began Day One on a high note as Julia Weinschreider (Williamson, N.Y.)Â shattered the school record in the 3000 steeplechase event, clocking at 12 minutes and 43 seconds, improving her personal best by eight seconds.

Pepita Graham (Schenectady, N.Y.)Â posted a new season best in the 100 meter dash, coming in at 13.44 seconds, working her way up the Empire 8 leaderboard.

Addison Shank (Emmaus, PA) set a new personal best in the 1500 meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of five minutes and 58 seconds.

Brynita Haas (Red Creek, N.Y.) wrapped up track events on Day One with a stellar performance in the 10K, taking second place with a final time of 40 minutes and 46 seconds, punching her ticket to the Empire 8 Championships.

Giovanna Wall (West Hurley, N.Y.) posted a personal record of 105 feet and four inches in the hammer throw event, carrying the team's momentum into the field events.

Iona Stum (Oreland, PA) performed well in the hammer throw event as well, posting a new personal best of 84.1 feet to wrap up the Cortland Classic.

Hartwick got the Cortland Classic underway with strong performances in the 100 meter, Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.) blazed through the event, timing in at 11.11 seconds, improving his best mark from last weekend by 0.01 seconds.

Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.) shattered his personal best in the 100 meter, crossing the finish line at 11.39 seconds, pushing him and Bazemore up the E8 rankings.

Erik Higgins (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Topher Fitzpatrick (Massapequa, N.Y.) got things going on the distance side, both posting new bests in the 1500 meter event. Higgins posted a season best time with a mark of four minutes and thirty seconds.

Fitzpatrick set a personal best of five minutes and fifteen seconds to wrap up track events on Day One.

Bazemore continues to shine in his debut season, soaring high with a new personal best in the long jump event, shattering a 39 year old program record.

The previous record of 22 feet and five inches was held by Tom Furphy in 1986, Cody was able to set a new mark of 22 feet and 5 ¾ inches to give him the crown.Â

Higgins returned on Day Two and continued to perform, shaving five seconds off his season best in the 800 meter event, timing in at two minutes and three seconds to book his spot in the Empire 8 Championship.

Conteh kept rolling as well, setting a new PR in the 400 meter event, crossing the finish line in 52.35 seconds, taking a spot in the E8 Championship as well.

The grouping of Larry McCumiskey (Delhi, N.Y.), Devon Spalding (Mineola, N.Y.), Fitzpatrick and Higgins made their debut in the 4x800, timing in at nine minutes and thirteen seconds.

First Year Thomas Stiles (Shrewsbury, N.J.) set a personal record in the discus throw, posting a mark of 85 feet and four inches.

Joseph Fay (Walton, N.Y.) capped off the Cortland Classic with a season PR in the shot put event, collecting a mark of 35 feet and 9.5 inches.
