WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
The Hawks came out of the gate with an intensity after Friday's tough loss to Keuka College, with Sierra Phillips (Salem, NY) getting the first hit on the board with a bunt that sent her to first.
-
Nadia Pascucci (Troy, NY) would reach first on an error by Elmira's pitcher before stealing second as Phillips advanced to third.
-
Bella Martinez (Port Byron, NY) would then double to left field, grabbing two RBIs and sending both Phillips and Pascucci home.
-
The second inning was scoreless for both teams, however Elmira would manage to score on two different wild pitches in the third and fourth, tying the game. Both Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY) and Jessica Betts (South Glens Falls, NY) would snag a single each, though they could not make it home.
-
Pascucci would also manage to get a single in the fifth, but the Hawks could not capitalize, leaving two on base.
-
The rain would begin to fall in Elmira, causing the game to first be halted and then suspended to a later date. The Hawks would return to Elmira on Wednesday, April 23rd, with Game 1 picking up at the bottom of the fifth with the Elmira Soaring Eagles batting next.
-
Unfortunately, Elmira would explode with momentum while at bat, tallying up 4 hits and 8 runs to end the game in five innings.
GAME TWO
-
Emily Holladay (Hancocks Bridge, N.J.) would open Game 2 with a single up the middle, though she would be caught stealing second, with the Hawks earning nothing in the first.
-
Elmira would get one run in the first off a triple and then a sacrifice fly that sent their runner home.
-
Brianna Blake (Mechanicville, N.Y.) would be a force for the Hawks, with a single up center field and advancement off Elmira errors. A sacrifice fly by Martinez would be enough to send Blake home and knot the game at 1-1.
-
In the third, multiple errors by the Soaring Eagles would get Stevens and Autumn Millington (Westmoreland, N.Y.) on base, while a sacrifice play by Phillips and yet another Elmira error would send them home for unearned runs.
-
Blake would also snag a single, though the Eagles would quickly shut down the Hawks' scoring crusade.
-
Elmira would fight back, grabbing their own runs to keep the game tied going into a tense fourth inning.
-
While the Eagles stumbled in the fifth, managing to put nothing on the scoreboard, the Hawks would keep up their assault at bat, with Anna Klein (Souderton, PA) grabbing a single. Samantha Osborne (Schenevus, NY) would pinch run for her, scoring after an impressive triple to left center by Stevens.
-
Phillips and Holladay would pick up another hit each, with Millington able to make it home and bring the Hawks up by two runs.
-
Blake and Betts would snag hits in the fifth, though Elmira would halt any scoring opportunities.
-
The Royal Blue and White seemed to run out of steam by the sixth, unable to gather anything, while the Soaring Eagles came alive with a major comeback with four runs off seven hits.
-
Klein would do what she could to keep the Hawks alive in the seventh with a single, but with no other hits on the Hawks' end, Elmira would take Game 2.
