ONEONTA, N.Y. – Women's volleyball picked up a 3-1 Empire 8 victory over Brockport in Lambros Arena, taking the match by scores of 25-22, 17-25, 25-23, and 25-18. The Hawks used a dominant fourth set to close out the conference win, moving to 7-7 on the season.
Lucille Walker (Ithaca, N.Y.) led the Hawks offensively with 21 kills while hitting .633 for the match.
Isabella Gracias (Oneonta, N.Y.) added 10 kills and a pair of blocks, while
Samantha Garback (Tully, N.Y.) recorded five kills and two blocks.
Thylia Keoviengsamay (Rome, N.Y.) paced the offense with 35 assists while adding four kills and nine digs.
Malia Dake (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) led Hartwick defensively with 22 digs, while
Maya Lesinski (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) contributed 14 digs and a block assist.
Makella O'Neill (Webster, N.Y.) added eight digs, while
Olivia Pirkl (Cazenovia, N.Y.) finished with seven digs.
Hartwick finished with 45 kills on 161 attacks and hit .143 as a team. The Hawks recorded 67 digs, four total block and two service aces. Brockport finished with 50 kills on 164 attacks while recording 78 digs and eight service aces.
The Hawks opened the match with a back and forth set. Brockport jumped out to a 6-1 lead before Hartwick steadily worked their way back into the set. The Hawks tied the score at 12-12 and later took a 16-15 lead before Brockport answered to get back in front. Hartwick closed the set on a strong run, scoring the final three points to take the opener, 25-22.
Brockport answered in the second set, taking control early to build a 9-5 advantage. The Hawks stayed within striking distance at 11-10, but the Golden Eagles continued to pull away. Brockport pushed its lead to 20-13 before closing out the set, 25-17 to even the match.
Hartwick responded with another tightly contested third set. After trailing 9-6, the Hawks battled back and eventually took a 17-15 lead. Brockport answered to tie the set 17-17 and later held a 19-17 advantage. The Hawks tied the set at 20-20 and eventually earned set point at 24-23 before an attack error by Brockport gave Hartwick the 25-23 win.
The Hawks carried their momentum into the fourth set, taking an early 6-3 lead and extending it to 10-4. Brockport cut the deficit to 13-10, but Hartwick continued to maintain control. The Hawks pushed their advantage to 20-15 before closing out the match with five of the final eight points, taking the fourth and final set 25-18.
