ONEONTA, N.Y. – Women's soccer faced Geneseo on Elmore Field, falling 2-1 to the Knights.
Calleigh Byron (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) scored Hartwick's lone goal of the day, off of a throw in from
Ella Weber (Lenhartsville, Pa.).
Marisol Gadziala (New Hartford, N.Y.) recorded two shots, while
Kellie Sullivan (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) registered one shot on goal.
In goal,
Kelsey Bollen (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) kept Hartwick within striking distance throughout the afternoon, making four saves on six shots on goal.
Geneseo finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots and held a 6-1 edge in shots on goal. The Knights also earned five corner kicks to Hartwick's one.
Geneseo struck early, finding the back of the net just two minutes into the contest when they converted the opportunity off of an assist. The Knights doubled their advantage in the 14
th minute, while Hartwick continued working toward opportunities. Sullivan and Gadziala each recorded shots, before Bollen made a save on a Geneseo attempt in the 39
th minute.
The Hawks got on the board just before halftime.
Ella Weber set up Byron in the 41
st minute, with Byron finishing the chance to bring Hartwick within one heading into half.
Hartwick's defense kept the Hawks in the match throughout the second half, Bollen turning aside three Geneseo shots on goal. The Knights continued to pressure with several chances, but Hartwick held them off until the final whistle. Gadziala registered Hartwick's lone second-half shot, but the Knights held on to their one goal advantage until the final whistle.
