WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Hartwick women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the 2025–26 Empire 8 Championships with a strong showing, finishing third overall behind SUNY Brockport and nationally ranked SUNY Geneseo, who captured the title for the second consecutive season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The 1650-yard freestyle opened the final day, with the Hawks looking to score early. Cate Russo (San Pedro, Cal.) led the way with a fourth-place finish in 18:16.31.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Kate Gucciardi (Cicero, N.Y.) added points with another fourth-place finish, touching the wall in 2:09.89. Hartwick earned its first medal of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke as Min-Syun Chen (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) posted a 2:27.83 finish, adding to her strong championship performance with a silver medal.
On the diving board, Annabelle Lindsay (Hudson Falls, N.Y.) contributed valuable points with a 343.95 score in the 3-meter diving event, the final individual event of the meet.
The Hawks concluded the evening in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where Aubrey Vaile (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), Danielle DeCarlo (Whitesboro, N.Y.), Anna Bischoff (Oneonta, N.Y.), and Russo combined for a fourth-place finish with a time of 3:42.67.
Hartwick's consistent performances throughout the four-day meet propelled the team to a podium finish, highlighting a strong close to the season.
