Winter Haven, FL – Hartwick Softball played in their first official day of The Spring Games Tournament, marking three games against UW-Stout, Coe College, and Manchester University.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1 vs. University of Wisconsin-Stout)
The Hawks opened their day against the University of Wisconsin–Stout, with the Blue Devils jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Pitcher
Alana Villavicencio (Deer Park, NY) settled in during the second, recording her first strikeout of the day. UW–Stout added another run on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0.
Shannon Mentz (Binghamton, NY) recorded Hartwick's first hit in the bottom half, but the Hawks couldn't turn it into a scoring chance.
Villavicencio followed with a strong third inning, allowing just one hit and no runs. Freshman
Madi Hoerman (Portage, MI) sparked the offense with a single up the middle and a stolen base, but Hartwick couldn't bring her around and remained behind heading into the fourth.
UW–Stout added two runs in the fourth to build its advantage. Hoerman entered the circle in the fifth and held the Blue Devils scoreless, while also picking up a hit at the plate. Still, the Hawks trailed heading into the sixth.
In the final inning, UW–Stout strung together hits to score three more runs. Hartwick showed some late fight, with
Alicea Seitzinger (Bridgeton, NJ),
Autumn Millington (Westmoreland, NY), and Mentz each recording singles, but the Hawks were unable to get on the board. UW-Stout closed the game 9-0 as the Hawks headed into their second matchup of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2 vs. Coe College)
In their second game of the day, the Hawks faced the Coe College Kohawks, with
Ashley Hacker getting the start in the circle.
Hartwick came out strong in the opening inning, as
Madi Hoerman advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Samantha Moore (Mamaroneck, NY) followed with an RBI single to the left side, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. The Blue and White backed it up defensively in the bottom half, holding Coe hitless and scoreless.
The Kohawks responded in the second inning, putting together five hits to score six runs and take control of the game. Coe carried that momentum into the third, adding three more runs, capitalizing on a stolen base and an error to extend the lead.
In the fourth,
Brianna Blake (Mechanicville, NY) singled to right field, followed by a base hit from Jaden Beak (Mattawan, MI). A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, but the Hawks were unable to convert as a strikeout ended the inning. Coe answered again in the bottom half, plating three runs to push the score to 12-1.
Hartwick showed fight in the fifth, as Moore delivered her second RBI single of the game to bring Hoerman home once again. Additional singles from Blake and
Ashlee Stevens (Knox, NY) gave the Hawks opportunities, but a groundout to first ended the rally and the game, with Coe securing a 12-2 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 3 vs. Manchester)
Hartwick played Manchester University to close out their day, going down 9-0 in a 6-inning matchup. Hartwick struggled to find offensive rhythm going down in order in the top of the first. Manchester capitalized early in the bottom half, a string of five hits highlighted by a two-RBI single to give them a 3-0 advantage.
The Hawks continued to battle at the plate but was held hitless through the first two innings.
Alicea Seitzinger broke through in the third with a single down the right field line, but was left on base heading into the bottom half. The Spartans added to their lead after a double to left center plated another run, putting them up one more run. Manchester tacked on one more in the fourth with an RBI single, making it 5-0.
Jaden Beak and
Autumn Millington added singles in the sixth inning to put two runners on, the Hawks unable to convert the opportunity. Manchester sealed the game in the bottom half of the sixth with a three-run frame, closing the game in a 8-0 deficit.
