ONEONTA, N.Y. – Ellie Kalbach (Spring City, Pa.) and Kaiden Johnson (Wakefield, Mass.) have been named Hawks of the Week following standout performances this past week. Kalbach and Johnson each earned their first weekly honors of the spring.
Kalbach played a pivotal role in Hartwick's flawless week in flag football, totaling 75 yards and two touchdowns while adding 18 flag pulls and two pass breakups on the defensive end in wins over Elmira and Geneseo. She was also part of the program's first-ever touchdown, throwing a scoring pass from her wide receiver position to Anne Stanavich (Amsterdam, N.Y.). Kalbach later added a 50-yard receiving touchdown of her own in the 26-18 victory over the Soaring Eagles.
She anchored a strong defensive effort against the Knights on Saturday, recording a game-high 11 flag pulls as the Hawks shut out Geneseo in the first half en route to a 20-13 conference win. With the honor, Kalbach becomes the first Hartwick student-athlete this year to earn Hawk of the Week recognition in two different sports.
Kalbach and the Hawks will travel to Russell Sage for the program's first road contest, taking on the Gators at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31.
Johnson was outstanding in between the pipes during a defensive battle against Brockport, making 18 saves. The Wakefield native faced 28 shots and posted an impressive 64% save percentage. It marks back-to-back games with a save percentage of 64% or higher, as well as his fifth consecutive contest with double-digit saves.
Johnson and the Hawks return to the road to face Nazareth at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.
