ONEONTA, N.Y. – Anne Stanavich (Amsterdam, NY) and Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.) have been named Hawks of the Week following standout performances this past week. Stanavich earns her first honor, while Bazemore secures his fourth nod of the season.
Stanavich was lights out in three contests for the Blue and White, making her presence felt on both sides of the ball. She opened her week with 83 rushing yards and a touchdown, adding a receiving score in a close battle against Russell Sage. The junior captain followed with 56 yards and another receiving touchdown, while recording a game-high eight tackles in a non-conference matchup against Villa Maria. Stanavich capped off her weekend with her best effort yet, rushing for 77 yards and two scores while coming alive defensively. She pulled a game-high 17 flags and broke up three passes, helping lift the Hawks to a non-conference triumph over D'Youville.
Stanavich and the Hawks return to conference play on the road, squaring off against Brockport on Friday, April 10 at 4 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend against Geneseo on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Bazemore continued his momentum from a stellar indoor season, putting on a show at the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite on Saturday. He opened the day with a record-breaking performance in the men's 4x100-meter relay. The quartet of Jaiden Deacon (Valley Stream, N.Y.), Cody Bazemore (Bel Air, Md.), Patrick Conteh (Salisbury, Md.), and Shane Hunte (Rosedale, N.Y.) raced to a time of 42.56, securing a regional qualifying mark while shattering the previous program record and finishing just shy of the facility mark.
Bazemore highlighted the sprints with a second-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking in at 22.06 seconds to improve his conference mark. He capped off his stellar day in the long jump, breaking another program record with a leap of 7.06 meters (23 feet, 2 inches) to take first place. The mark secured both a regional qualifying standard and a spot at the Empire 8 Championships.
Bazemore and the Hawks will head to RPI for the Friday Night Under the Lights & Alumni Meet on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11.
