ONEONTA, N.Y. – Football put together a dominant performance at their home opener, rolling past Buffalo State 47-13 at Wright Stadium.
The Hawks wasted little time getting on the board, scoring four touchdowns in the opening quarter to take a 28-0 lead.
Akil Williams (Chester, N.Y.) opened the scoring with a 54-yard touchdown run before Ty'Lyn Blackwell-Williams (Nyack, N.Y.) connected with
Miles Perry (Ilion, N.Y.) for a 44-yard score. Blackwell-Williams then found
Miles Sinclair (Staten Island, N.Y.) twice, including a 35-yard touchdown and a four-yard score, to cap the fast start.
Hartwick added two more point-producing drives in the second quarter, with
Landon Smith (La Plata, Md.) converting field goals from 29 and 31 yards to send the Hawks into halftime with a 34-0 advantage. Smith added another 31-yard field goal early in the third quarter, extending the lead 37-0.
Buffalo State got on the board midway through the third quarter, but Hartwick answered with another scoring drive.
Akil Williams broke free for his second touchdown of the afternoon from 21-yards out, putting the Hawks ahead 44-7. The Hawks added one more field goal in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring.
Williams led the Hartwick rushing attack with 132 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Blackwell-Williams completed 11 of 15 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns, while Sinclair hauled in three passes for 47 yards and two scores. Perry added a 44-yard touchdown reception.
Defensively, the Hawks forced four turnovers, including three interceptions.
Montega Mack (Bronx, N.Y.) accounted for two interceptions and 32 return yards, while
Robert Kennedy (Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y.) added another pick. Hartwick also recorded eight sacks, with
Billy O'Connor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) leading the way with three sacks and 24 tackles for loss. With the victory, Hartwick improves to 1-1 on the season.
