ALBANY, NY – Hartwick volleyball ended their weekend tri-match with two wins, defeating the Russell Sage Gators (25-13, 25-23, and 25-23) and the Cobleskill Fighting Tigers (25-14, 16-25, 25-16, 25-8) on the road.
Game 1 vs. Russell Sage
Hartwick got off to a quick start in the opening set, building an early lead before pulling away for the 25-13 win. The Hawks carried their momentum into the second set, taking an 18-13 lead and holding off a late Sage push to take the set 25-23.
The third set saw Sage jump out to an early 9-2 lead, the Hawks working their way back into the set. Hartwick tied the score at 20-20 before closing out the match with the final two points for another 25-23 win.
Sophia Palladino (Owego, N.Y.) led the Hawks with 11 kills and 11 digs, while
Lucille Walker (Ithaca, N.Y.) added nine kills and five blocks.
Maya Lesinski (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) finished with eight kills, three aces, and ten digs.
Thylia Keoviengsamay (Rome, N.Y.) recorded 31 assists, while
Malia Dake (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) added nine digs. As a team, Hartwick finished with 33 kills, six aces, 42 digs, and 7 blocks.
Game 2 vs. Cobleskill
Hartwick came out strong in the opening set, hitting .400 as a team and taking the first frame, 25-14.
Lucille Walker led the attack early with three kills and three aces, while
Malia Dake added a pair of aces during the set.
Cobleskill answered in the second, taking a 25-16 decision to even the match at one set each. The Hawks responded in the third, hitting .320 and pulling away late for a 25-16 win. Hartwick used a strong service stretch from Dake, along with four team blocks, to regain control of the match.
The fourth set belonged to the Hawks from the start.
Isabella Gracias (Oneonta, N.Y.) opened the frame with a kill, opening Hartwick's run to a 16-0 lead. The Hawks closed the set out 25-8, securing the 3-1 victory.
Walker finished with ten kills, four aces, and four blocks. Gracias added 11 kills, hitting .500 and chipped in with three blocks. Keoviengsamay recorded 28 assists, while Dake finished with 7 digs and 10 service aces.
