ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick Women's Soccer battled through 90 minutes in their last Mayor's Cup match against Clarkson, but the Golden Knights held on for a 1-0 victory to win it all.
Clarkson struck early finding the back if the net in the sixth minute, converting a chance off of an assist. Hartwick responded by putting immense pressure on the Clarkson defense, but the Hawks were unable to find the equalizer before halftime.
The Hawks generated five shots in the opening frame, including two from
Elizabeth Burke (Latham, N.Y.) Burke put both of her attempts on frame, but were ultimately saved by the opposing keeper. Hartwick continued to push forward following halftime, creating several chances and earning five corners in the second half.
Olivia Farnham (Millerton, N.Y.) had a pair of shots on goal, while
Dahlia Landry (Manhattan, N.Y.) and
Reilly Groff (Monroe, N.Y.) forced the Golden Knight's goalie to make saves against their own.
The Hawks finished the afternoon with ten shots, putting six on goal, while holding Clarkson to three total shots. Hartwick also earned seven corners, compared to just two from the opposing Knights.
Despite having control of the offensive pressure throughout the match, Hartwick was unable to convert a goal; Clarkson making six saves to preserve the shutout.
