ONEONTA, NY - Hartwick's volleyball team fought back from a two sets to zero deficit but fell in the fifth and deciding set to Morrisville on Friday night at Lambros Arena. The loss drops the Hawks to 6-15 overall. Morrisville improves to 9-11.
The Mustangs took the opening sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-17 before the Hawks got back into the match in the third with a 25-19 third-set win. 'Wick won the fourth set comfortably 25-17 to set the stage for a race to 15 points in the final frame.
Morrisville took the first four points and extended their advantage to 10-3 at one point in the final set. Hartwick closed the gap to six points, 11-5, but the Mustangs would take four of the next five points to earn the non-conference victory.
Sophomore Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and freshman Lauren Heiman (Dansville, NY/ Wayland Cohocton) each recorded 11 kills to pace Hartwick. Heiman also hit .526 for the match. Freshmen Tori Beck (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) registered 16 and 15 digs, respectively. Mausert added 10.
Hartwick continues play tomorrow hosting Utica and Alfred in a tri-match. The Hawks battle the Pioneers at 11 a.m. and the Saxons at 3:30 p.m.
