Volleyball Splits With Sage, CCNY

ONEONTA, NY -- The Hartwick College volleyball team downed The Sage Colleges in three sets and fell to CCNY in four sets on Saturday at Oneonta State's Dig Pink Day. The Hawks cruised past the Gators for the second time this season 25-11, 25-16, 25-17. In the nightcap, 'Wick fell short for the third time this year against the Beavers 12-25, 27-25, 25-27, 25-27.

The Hawks played well offensively against Sage hitting a season-best .286 as a team. Junior Courtney Desmond (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) was errorless with a team-high nine kills in 15 attacks. She also tied a career-high with eight blocks. Sophomore Lauren Heiman (Danville, NY/Wayland Cohocton) added six kills in the match. Freshman Katie Ryan (Circleville, NY/Pine Bush) contributed four kills on six attacks with no errors.

Freshman Britney Lintner (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) dished out 12 assists with sophomore Shannon McGee (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) contributing seven assists and four blocks.

Against the Beavers, junior Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) notched 10 kills to pace the Hawks. Desmond added seven to go along with five more blocks. McGee and Lintner each registered double-doubles in the contest. McGee accumulated 11 assists and 11 digs and six kills with Lintner adding 10 digs and 10 assists. Christina Vitale (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. John the Baptist) recorded 20 digs, her second-highest total of her career.

Hartwick (7-27) wraps up the 2010 campaign on the road on Tuesday at Cobleskill. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
