Wins Continue to Pile Up for 'Wick Water Polo on West Coast

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Hartwick College water polo, which climbed the national poll to 9th earlier this week, continued to roll in California as the Hawks disposed of #17 Cal-Bakersfield to open play at the Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational at Hillman Aquatics Center. Hartwick has now defeated three nationally-ranked opponents in its first five games and the team improves to 4-1.

The Roadrunners jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter but 'Wick would score five of the next six goals to close the period with a 5-2 lead. Junior Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA/Laguna Beach) tallied twice in the period for the Hawks. Hartwick would extend its lead in the second period outscoring CSUB 3-2 to take an 8-4 edge at halftime.

The hosts would get back into the game in the third quarter as they scored four of the first six goals to shave the Hartwick advantage down to two, 10-8, but senior Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak) and freshman Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec/Sacred Heart) each tallied late in the period to extend the 'Wick edge.

Hartwick scored the first four goals of the fourth to put the game on ice. Martina Shorkey (Hollywood, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied twice in the period. Evans finished the match with a game-high four goals. McKee and Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand/Sacred Heart) each registered hat-tricks with Shorkey, Analytis, and Siann Ells-Tewhiu (Wellington, New Zealand/Queen Margaret College) scoring two goals each. Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) made six saves.

The Hawks continue play at the Roadrunner Invitational tomorrow. Hartwick takes a break from the tournament later tonight with a match at Fresno Pacific.
