#9 Hawks Earn Comeback Win Over Pacific

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA/Laguna Beach) scored two goals in the fourth quarter to complete a 10-9 comeback victory for Hartwick's water polo team over the University of Pacific at the Cal-Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational Saturday. The Hawks, who trailed for much of the match, entered the fourth quarter down 9-7, but they outscored the Tigers 3-0 in the fourth to emerge with the victory. The Hawks are now 7-1 overall and 3-0 in tournament play with a pair of games still on the docket for tomorrow.

UOP took a 2-1 lead with 5:55 left in the first quarter of play and held onto it throughout the first half. The Tigers led by as many as three goals (6-3) in the opening period.

After trailing 7-5 at the half, Hartwick scored the opening two goals of the second half to tie the score at 7-7, but the Tigers ended the quarter on a 2-0 run for a 9-7 edge.

In the fourth, Siann Ells-Tewhiu (Wellington, New Zealand/Queen Margaret College) and McKee each scored in a 1:28 span to quickly even the score at nine. The match stayed tied until 1:17 remained on the clock when McKee found the net for the game-winner.

McKee would finish with three goals and three assists on the night. Ells-Tewhiu added three tallies and three steals. Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA/Montebello) contributed a goal and three helpers, and Hanneke Alfernink (Nijverdal, Netherlands/Univ. of Groningen) and Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec/Sacred Heart) each registered a goal apiece. Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand/Sacred Heart) also had two assists and goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) secured 11 saves. Hartwick concludes play in the Roadrunner Invitational tomorrow.

The Hawks play Cal State Monterey Bay at 11:35 a.m. EST and #13 Cal State Northridge at 12:55. The Hawks and Matadors played eight days ago with Hartwick coming out on top, 12-8.
