POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Hartwick College's water polo team won two games at the Marist Invitational on Saturday scoring a total of 37 goals. The 11th ranked Hawks defeated St. Francis 18-6 and Iona 19-10. Hartwick is now 16-4 overall on the season.
Against the Terriers in their first game, 17 different Hawks recorded at least a point. Hanneke Alfernink (Nijverdal, Netherlands/Univ. of Groningen) led Hartwick with three goals. Shannon Leonard (Point Clair, Quebec/John Rennie), Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake Girls College), and Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec/Sacred Heart) each scored twice. Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) and Hayley Cox (El Segundo, CA/El Segundo) split time in the Hawk goal and combined for eight saves.
In the Hawks' second game of the day against Iona, 'Wick scored 16 times in the opening three quarters to down the Gaels. Christina Evans (Cedar Hills, UT/Lone Peak), Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA/Laguna Beach), Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand/Sacred Heart), and Analytis combined for 17 goals in the game. Evans and McKee each registered five goals, Hudson scored four and picked up four assists, and Analytis contributed three tallies. Dorman made eight saves in the goal. In an exhibition match to wrap up the day, Hartwick fell to Siena 12-8.
The Hawks conclude play at Marist tomorrow with an exhibition match with New York Athletic Club at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 3:30 p.m. match against the host Red Foxes.
