HILTON HEAD, SC – Hartwick's men's tennis team fell to 0-2 on the season as Elmhurst Coillege (IL) slipped past the Hawks 5-4. The dual match began Sunday but was rained out after just two doubles matches had been completed. On Monday, the Blue Jays (2-3) took the remaining doubles match and three out of four singles matches for the win.
Sophomores Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Reg.) and Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie),and junior Sean Barr (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) each won their respective singles matches for Hartwick.
Boyd won his first match of the season at first singles defeating Dave Douglas 6-1, 6-1. Dumas scored a comeback 6-7 (0-7), 6-4, 6-1 victory over Elmhurst's Dean Delaventis in third singles, and Barr downed Justin Guenther 7-5, 7-5 in fourth singles.
Boyd and Dumas also combined for the Hawks' lone singles win against the Blue Jays. The dup defeated Douglas and Devaney 8-4.
The Hawks continue play in South Carolina on Wednesday. 'Wick faces Franklin College (IN) at noon.
