Men’s Tennis Moves to 2-0 in Empire 8 With 6-3 Win Over St. John Fisher

            ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick won its third straight dual match of the season and second straight Empire 8 match with a 6-3 win over St. John Fisher (0-6, 0-2 E8) on Saturday. The bottom four singles flights each went to the third set with 'Wick winning two of them to nail down the victory.
            Matt Whitty (St. Catherines, Ontario/Ridley College) and Mike del Rosario (Troy, NY/Stamford) pulled out their three-set wins in fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Whitty won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 over Greg Duffy in the fifth flight for his second straight triumph. Del Rosario secured a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Daniel Parshall in sixth singles.
            Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) won his 3rd straight shutting out Matthew Aquino 6-0, 6-0. Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico) won his second in a row 6-3, 6-3 over Timothy Adler. Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie) and Sean Barr (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) were each edge out in three sets in 3rd and 4th singles, respectively.
            In doubles, Boyd and Dumas improved to 3-2 on the year in first singles with an 8-5 win. Navarro and Whitty also won 8-3 in the second flight.
            Hartwick looks to stay perfect in the Empire 8 tomorrow. The Hawks host Nazareth at 1 p.m.
