Hawks Fall to Defending E8 Champs

            ITHACA, NY – The Hartwick men's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by Ithaca on Wednesday to slip to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in Empire 8 play. Ithaca, the defending Empire 8 champion, improves to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
            The Bombers began the dual match taking all three doubles flights. Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Reg.) and Peter Dumas (Albany, NY/Colonie) were edged out in first doubles 8-5 by Taylor Borda and Josh Rifkin. The Ithaca duo is 19-3 on the year and has now won 10 straight matches together.
            In singles action, Sean Barr (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) took his opponent to a third and deciding set, but he came up two points short in the tie-breaker. Daniel Wolk won the first set 6-4 before Barr stormed back to win the second set 6-1. Wolk would take the match, however, winning 10-8 in the breaker.
            The Hawks are back home tomorrow against Cobleskill at 4 p.m. 'Wick then travels to Stevens for a Saturday match in its next E8 dual match.
