Hawks Blank Alfred 9-0

The Hartwick women's tennis team was able to stay undefeated in Empire 8 play with a 9-0 victory over Alfred at SUNY Delhi's Clark Fieldhouse. The Hawks swept the six singles matches and took all three in doubles play. The team improves to 2-0 on the season.

Seniors Jen Lin (Albany, NY/Colonie), Kim Post (Nashua, NH/North Middlesex Reg.), Carly Jesset (Shelburne, VT/Champlain Valley Union), and Emily Scarano ( Little Falls, NY/ Little Falls), sophomore Lauren Michaels (Clinton, NY/ Clinton) and freshman Angelica Cofer (Litchfield, CT/ Litchfield) were all victorious on the day.

Post was the only player needing three sets. After splitting the first two sets Post won the super tiebreaker 10-7 over Saxon Kate Cohen. Lin moved to 2-0 at first singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Griffin Currie. Cofer earned her second win 6-3, 6-3. Sorrentino dominated by a score of 6-0 6-2. Jesset won at fifth singles 6-4, 6-3, and Michaels defeated Catherine Spencer 6-2, 6-1 at sixth singles.

In doubles play, Post and Lin squeezed past Currie and McLain 9-8 (7-5). Cofer and Sorrentino won their match 8-2, and Jesset and Scarano won their first doubles match of the season by a score of 8-3.

Hartwick looks to keep their undefeated season alive as it hosts Ithaca on Thursday at 4 P.M.
