ONEONTA, NY- Hartwick women's tennis defeated The Sage Colleges 8-1 on Friday. Sage, of the Skyline conference, fell to 2-4 on the season while the Hawks improved to 3-3 on the year. The Hawks swept the three doubles matches with ease, and won five of six singles matches in straight sets for the win.
Angelica Cofer (Litchfield, CT/ Litchfield) improved on her successful freshman campaign with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kate Saulsbury at second singles. It marked her fourth win of the year. Kim Post (Nashua, NH/North Middlesex Reg.) defeated Nicole Riley 6-3, 7-5 at third singles to improve to 5-1.
Christina Sorrentino (Sherrill, NY/ VVS) was a winner at fourth singles 6-0, 6-0 over Mary Late Haywood to get back to .500 at 3-3. Carly Jesset (Shelburne, VT/ Champlain Valley Union) and, Lauren Michaels (Clinton, NY/ Clinton) were easy winners at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Jesset won 6-0, 6-2 for her third win and Michaels won 6-1, 6-1 to up her season mark to 3-2.
Jen Lin (Albany, NY/Colonie) and Post edged out a victory in first doubles, 9-7. Cofer and Sorrentino rolled 8-1 in second doubles and Emily Scarano (Little Falls, NY/ Little Falls) and Jesset won by the same score in third doubles.
The Hawks will look to put a winning streak together as they travel to Utica tomorrow to face the Pioneers at 10 A.M.
