UTICA, NY - The Hartwick women's tennis won its fourth match of the season and second in a row on Saturday with a 9-0 shutout of Utica College. The Hawks dropped just three games in their three doubles matches and no player surrendered more than three games in singles action. The Hawks improve to 4-3 on the season and 3-3 in the Empire 8. The Pioneers fall to 0-3.
Four of the Hawks were perfect in singles action with 6-0, 6-0 victories, including Angelica Cofer (Litchfield, CT/ Litchfield), Kim Post (Nashua, NH/North Middlesex Reg.), Christina Sorrentino (Sherrill, NY/ VVS), and Emily Scarano ( Little Falls, NY/ Little Falls).
Senior Jen Lin (Albany, NY/Colonie) dominated in her first singles match by a score of 6-2, 6-1 over Jennifer Persio. Playing in her first match of the season, senior Katie Watson (East Greenbush, NY/ Colombia), easily handled Nives Vujinec 6-1, 6-0.
The Hawks had no trouble in doubles play as Post and Lin won in the first flight 8-3 to mark their fourth victory of the season. Cofer and Sorrentino won their match 8-0 which gives them four wins on the season as well. Scarano and Carly Jesset (Shelburne, VT/Champlain Valley Union) won 8-0 for their third win as a duo.
Hartwick will host hometown rival Oneonta State on Wednesday at 4 P.M.
