ONEONTA, NY - Oneonta State downed the Hartwick women's tennis team on Wednesday to drop the Hawks to 4-4 on the season. The Red Dragons won all three doubles matches and five out of the six singles matches to earn the victory. O-State is now 5-3 on the year.
Angelica Cofer (Litchfield, CT/ Litchfield) continued her impressive freshmen campaign with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Emily Shannon, to improve to 6-2 on the season. Lauren Michaels (Clinton, NY/ Clinton) dropped a tight match by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the sixth singles flight.
Each of the three doubles matches were closely contested. Jen Lin (Albany, NY/Colonie) and Kimberly Post (Nashua, NH/North Middlesex Reg.) fell short 8-3 in first doubles. Cofer and Christina Sorrentino (Sherrill, NY/ VVS) fell three games short by a score of 8-5 in second doubles action. Carly Jesset (Shelburne, VT/Champlain Valley Union), and Emily Scarano (Little Falls, NY/ Little Falls) lost by a score of 8-5 in third doubles play.
The Hawks return to the courts tomorrow as they host Union at 4 p.m.
