ALFRED, NY- The women's tennis team ended its five match winless streak as they defeated host Alfred 6-3 on Sunday afternoon. Hartwick improves its record to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the Empire 8 while Alfred falls to 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the Empire 8.
The Hawks led 2-1 after doubles play.
Courtney Hinds (Montrose, PA/Montrose) and Kristen
Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) were victorious at second doubles as they defeated Jennifer Smith and Shannon Tovey 8-5. The team of
Lauren Michels (Clinton, NY/Clinton) and
Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) defeated Catherine Spencer and Emily Eisenberg 8-3 at third doubles.
Hartwick won all but two singles matches. Winners for the Hawks included
Kim Willet (
Suffied, CT/Suffield) who had a 6-4, 6-3 decision over the Saxon's Brennan Ferguson.
Nicole Schepisi (Renssselaer, NY/Columbia) won over Melissa Boyer 6-3, 6-0. Michels won her sixth match of the season as she defeated Jennifer Smith 6-2, 6-0. Napolitano was also a winner as she was victorious over Catherine Spencer 6-2, 6-2.
