ERIE, PA - Hartwick defeated Mercyhurst and Gannon on Saturday in Erie, PA to open up its Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division schedule. The Hawks, currently ranked 15th in the country and riding a 10-game win streak, downed the Lakers, 14-11, in the first meeting between the two programs. 'Wick then downed the Golden Knights, 15-11, to improve to 14-6 on the season.
The Hawks outscored Mercyhurst in each of the first three periods, opening up an 11-6 lead heading into the final period. The Lakers made it close with five of the final quarter's eight goals, but 'Wick managed to come away with the three-goal win.
Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec) and Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) each scored three times to lead Hartwick. Shannon Leonard (Pointe Clair, Quebec) contributed two scores. Lily Gall (Portland, OR), Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA), Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec), Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA), Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa), and Charlotte Mensink (Nijverdal, Netherlands) netted one goal apiece.
Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand) and Hayley Cox (El Segundo) combined for the win in goal for 'Wick. Dorman stopped 12 Laker shots, while Cox registered two saves.
Bass was the big scorer for the Hawks against Gannon. The junior tallied six times for a seven-goal afternoon. Analytis and Mensink contributed two goals each. Martinez, Dendy Young (pictured), Leonard, Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand), and Kristen Wagner (Orange, CA) added the other Hartwick tallies. Dorman (6) and Cox (3) teamed up for nine saves.
The Hawks have three remaining divisional games in their schedule. 'Wick plays Michigan and Indiana at Bucknell University on April 9. The Hawks then play on the road at Bucknell eight days later on April 17.
Hartwick next plays one week from today against Cal Baptist and Cal San Bernardino in the Cal Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational.
