Hawks Continue to Roll With Victories Over Bakersfield, Redlands

BAKERSFIELD, CA - Hartwick water polo wrapped up play at the Cal Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational on Sunday. The Hawks defeated the host Roadrunnners 17-7 and Redlands 17-9 to improve to 18-6 on the season. The Hawks have also won 14 straight games.

Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec), Charlotte Mensink (Nijverdal, Netherlands), and Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand) starred for the Hawks against Bakersfield. Bass and Mensink combined to score 10 goals and Dorman blocked 18 shots in cage.

The Hawks scored four goals or more in each of the first three quarters in the game. Bass led the way with six goals. It marks the second time in four games the junior driver has registered six tallies. Mensink added four goals and Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA) and Sasha Freeborn (Auckland, New Zealand) notched two tallies apiece.

The scoring spree continued against the Bulldogs as the Hawks scored 11 times in the first half alone to open up an 11-4 advantage. 'Wick increased its edge to ten, 15-5, after three quarters and added another two scores in the fourth for the 15-9 win.

Bass, McKee, and Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) paced Hartwick with three goals each. Sami Capparelli (Miami, FL) contributed two tallies and Freeborn, Stephanie Abajian (La Canada, CA), Shannon Leonard (Pointe Clair, Quebec), and Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec) added one goal each.

Dorman stopped another eight shots for Hartwick. Hayley Cox (El Segundo, CA) added two saves in relief.

Hartwick next plays on Tuesday with a pair of games at Pomona and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps as the Hawks look to add another two to the win column. The program record for consecutive victories is 17, set in 2004.
