POMONA, CA - Hartwick water polo defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 14-5, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 16-9, on Tuesday evening to extend the Hawks' winning streak to 16 games. Hartwick, which improves to 20-6 on the season, has now reached the 20-win mark for the 10th straight season and eight consecutive time under head coach Alan Huckins.
Hartwick scored nine times in the first half against the Sagehens to open up a 9-4 lead. The Hawks then outscored Pomona 5-1 in the second half of play to close out the victory.
Senior Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA) and junior Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec) scored three times each for the Blue and White. Sophomore Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA) added two scores.
Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand) came away with 11 saves in the game. Hayley Cox (El Segundo, CA) made four stops.
Against the Athenas of CMS, Hartwick opened up a 6-1 lead after one quarter and the Hawks tallied nine times in the second half to cruise to the victory. Jemma Dendy Young (Cape Town, South Africa) scored four times for 'Wick in the game. McKee, Shannon Leonard (Pointe Clair, Quebec), and Natalie Seabourn (Auckland, New Zealand) each scored twice.
Dorman again reached double digits in saves with 14. Cox and Stephanie Abajian (La Canada, CA) stopped one shot each.
Hartwick will look to tie the program record for consecutive wins tomorrow. The Hawks, however, face a tall task as they travel to nationally 3rd ranked and defending national champion University of Southern California. The Trojans and Hawks will battle at 5 p.m. (PST).
