Ithaca Tops Men’s Tennis

            ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Ithaca (6-3, 4-0 Empire 8) defeated Hartwick College's men's tennis team on Thursday by a final count of 9-0. The Hawks fall to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
            The Bombers swept all three doubles match to take a 3-0 lead. In first doubles, 'Wick juniors Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) and Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy) turned in a solid performance against one of the top doubles teams in the region. The duo took four games from IC's Jimmy Newton and Josh Rifkin in an 8-4 loss.
            In singles play, both Boyd and Navarro won five games but both fell by identical scores of 6-3, 6-2. Boyd lost to Rifkin while Navarro dropped his first singles match of the year in the second flight to Newton.
            Sean Barr (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) took seven games in fourth singles. He dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Ithaca's Griffin Reid.
            Hartwick looks for its first win of the season on Saturday. The Hawks host Alfred University at 12 p.m.
