LEWISBURG, PA - Hartwick's nationally 12th ranked water polo team closed out its CWPA Western Division schedule on Sunday with a 14-9 victory at Bucknell University. The Hawks are now 23-9 on the year.
Hartwick was paced on the day by senior Jessica McKee (Tustin, CA) and junior Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec). Both players combined for nine of 14 goals as the Hawks improved to 9-1 against the Bison all-time.
Hartwick took command of the game with a dominant second quarter. The Hawks outscored the Bison by a 5-1 margin in the period with McKee scoring three times for an 8-4 lead at halftime.
Bucknell got as close as two in the second half, but Hartwick would score five of the game's final six goals to pull away.
McKee, Analytis, and Shannon Leonard (Pointe Clair, Quebec) each tallied for the Hawks as they opened up a 3-1 advantage with 2:54 left in the opening quarter. Following a timeout, the Bison tallied after nine seconds triggering a 3-0 run that handed the hosts the lead, 4-3, early in the second quarter.
The lead was short-lived as Lily Martinez (Commerce, CA) tied it 23 seconds later and McKee gave Hartwick the lead to stay with 4:24 remaining in the half. She added two more tallies in the next two minutes to extend the 'Wick advantage and Analytis made it 8-4 in the final minute.
Two Bucknell goals in the opening 1:14 of the third cut the deficit to two (8-6). Analytis' third tally of the day extended the lead to three, but the Bison scored with 6:12 left in the quarter to make it a two-goal game once again. Neither team managed a goal for close to six minutes until McKee netted her fifth with 23 ticks left.
In the fourth, the two teams traded goals in the first 1:04 but Hartwick put the game on ice with three unanswered tallies in a 1:37 span late in the contest. Analytis, Charlotte Mensink (Nijverdal, Netherlands), Lisa Bass (Montreal, Quebec), and Natalie Seabourn (Auckland, New Zealand) scored in the period.
Hartwick goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand) stopped seven shots for Hartwick, which closes out the regular season on Wednesday, April 20th with home games against Marist and Siena. The Hawks have likely secured the #2 seed in the upcoming CWPA Eastern Championships which will be held from April 29 through May 1 in Bloomington, IN.
