Hawks Sweep Utica For Second Straight Victory

            UTICA, NY – Hartwick men's tennis won its second straight match on Friday with a 9-0 sweep of Utica College. With the win, the Hawks improved to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the Empire 8.
            The Hawks dropped just four games in doubles play to start the day off. Juniors Marcelo Navarro (San Juan, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy) and Jeff Boyd (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) rolled to an 8-1 win in the first flight and seniors Mike del Rosario (Bloomville, NY/Stamford) and Sean Barr (Scarsdale, NY/Edgemont) won in second doubles by the same margin.
            Bobby Amberson (Raeford, NC/Middletown) and Ron Lambertson (Wawarsing, NY/Ellenville) picked up their first win of the season, 8-2, in the third spot.
            Boyd, Navarro, del Rosario, and Barr each won in straight sets in singles play for the Hawks. Boyd was nearly perfect in a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the first singles flight. Navarro improved to 7-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the second spot. Del Rosario won 6-1, 6-4 in third singles and Barr was victorious in the fourth slot, 6-1, 6-2.
            Amberson won his second straight match, 8-1. Newcomer Brett Landy (Armonk, NY/Byram Hills) won for the first time in his career with Hartwick, 8-3, at sixth singles.
            Hartwick's scheduled home game with Stevens tomorrow has been cancelled. The Hawks will next play on Monday, April 25 at Union College at 4 p.m.
